Location

The recreational area Bad Erna is located about 4 km south of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district, Brandenburg, within the Niederlausitz Heidiland Nature Park. The Westteich, also known as Bad Erna – Westteich, is a central part of the area and was formed from a former open-pit lignite mine.

Originally, the ponds of the recreational area “Bad Erna” were created as residual pits of an old lignite mine that operated from 1873 to 1920. After mining ceased, the pits filled with groundwater and have been used as bathing lakes since 1927. Today, the area features several man-made lakes, including the Inselteich, the Westteich, the Blauer See, the Barschteich, and the Franzosenteich.

The Westteich, covering an area of about 7.6 hectares, offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, hiking, and wildlife watching. The area is surrounded by forest and includes amenities like a forest tavern, idyllically situated by the bathing lake to serve visitors with food and drinks. A children’s playground with a pirate ship and locomotive especially welcomes the little ones to play and frolic.
