Dornach is a district of the municipality of Aschheim, located directly east of the gates of Munich. The district has about 1,600 inhabitants (as of January 2024). It borders the Munich-Riem district, with which it shares an S-Bahn stop (München-Riem / Dornach) as well as a common highway connection (A 94 München-Riem – Neue Messe).
Although Dornach is part of the municipality of Aschheim (which has around 10,000 inhabitants overall as of April 2024 and is situated about 3 kilometers northeast of Dornach), it is strongly oriented towards the Neue Messe München. The commercial area in Dornach is known as Expo-Gate Munich-Dornach. The area benefits greatly from the infrastructure of the Neue Messe München (for example, the U-Bahn station Messe-West and the shopping center Riem-Arkaden), which is separated from it only by the A 94 highway and the Munich–Mühldorf railway line.
In the Expo-Gate Munich-Dornach commercial area located at the S-Bahn stop, world-renowned companies such as Babybel, American Micro-Devices, and Ingram Micro are present, as well as ATRUVIA (formerly FIDUCIA, the data center of the Bavarian cooperative banks). Daily needs can be met with a grocery store (REWE), a beverage market, a drugstore (DM), and a discount supermarket (LIDL).
There is also an extensive range of services available at the nearby Riem-Arkaden and in the center of Aschheim. Directly in Dornach, several restaurants are available—from more traditional “good, hearty” fare to upscale options—and additional dining establishments can be found in Munich-Riem and Aschheim.
