With over 12,000 inhabitants, Tamm is the largest non-urban municipality in the Ludwigsburg district and borders directly to the northwest of the district town of Ludwigsburg, adjacent to the significant Ludwigsburg industrial area Tammerfeld.
The village of Tamm is divided into two parts, Tamm West and Tamm East (Hohenstange). Between them lies the Egelsee, a natural, park-like area with allotment gardens and orchards, albeit without an actual lake. Immediately to the south is the new town center with the new town hall, civic hall, and a listed railway station. The old village core—with the late Gothic St. Bartholomew’s Church, old town hall, the historic Ochsen Inn, and press house—is now situated at the western edge of the village.
The eastern border of the village is formed by the federal highway B 27 and the A 81 motorway, which intersect here at the Ludwigsburg Nord motorway feeder.
Tamm is also excellently connected to public transportation. At the station, the S-Bahn S 5 (Bietigheim-Stuttgart) and the regional trains of the Frankenbahn (Stuttgart – Würzburg) stop. The municipality is served by several VVS bus lines, including a night bus. In addition, the municipality can be explored actively via the Tammer Circular Hiking Trail (TRW), which is themed around the Tammer ram.
