Renovations:

Around 2004, all windows, the roof of the extension, and later the inner courtyard were renovated. In 2023, the basement including the ceiling insulation, all staircases, and the staircase area were renovated, with further work on insulating the roof of the front building as well as renovating the facade of the front building, the light well, and the hallway scheduled for 2024/25. The building dates from 1895, and the central gas heating was installed by STAWAG in 2021 with a term until 2036. The energy certificate from 2018 lists 123 kWh/(m²), which falls in a very good range (energy efficiency class D). The energy improvements of the front building’s roof in 2024/2025, the heating replacement (2021), and the basement ceiling insulation (2023) are not yet reflected in the 2018 energy certificate.

Johanniterstraße is extremely popular among students due to its quiet, largely traffic-free side street character and the immediate proximity to RWTH and the market. Numerous organic and non-organic supermarkets, bakeries, and restaurants can be found within 400 m.
