About a year and a half ago, the city of Halberstadt acquired the building—not only to preserve it but to safeguard a piece of memory.
In particular, the large-format wall mosaic “A Day at the Beach” by Pia and Walter Ebeling, an important work of art that acts like a window into another time, is to be preserved and made accessible once more.
The future starts now: renovation measures are planned, a new usage is on the horizon—and with it the chance to breathe new life into the city café. Already in 2022, as part of the MKH art biennale, the building was filled with life once again—a taste of what the future may hold.
