The stylishly appointed hotel has been welcoming guests of the monastery town since 1741. The foundations of the timber-framed building are even older, dating back to the construction period of the Cistercian monastery Walkenried. The imposing façade was restored in 2019 in accordance with listed building conservation standards.
The two-story timber-framed structure features both restaurant spaces and hotel rooms that leave nothing to be desired. On the ground floor, you will find a bright, friendly foyer with its sandstone cellar portal, the 1747 wine cellar, and access to the restaurant, the large banquet hall with stage, the salon, and the lounge.
On this level, there is also a fully equipped catering kitchen complete with a dishwashing area and refrigerated storage. It is fitted with modern appliances such as a convection oven, tilting frying pan, cooling table with eight tunnels, dishwasher, eight gas burners, a plate warming cabinet, stainless steel fixtures, a bain-marie, an induction stove, etc.
The light-filled restaurant offers approximately 35 seats depending on the table arrangement and features a beautiful, fully functional bar counter designed in the trendy chalet style. A highlight of the large banquet hall is the performance-ready stage. With seating available for up to 90 guests, the venue can also host large banquets.
The English-style salon is ideal for the convivial evening gatherings of hotel guests or for small groups of up to 14 people. In the rustic lounge, guests can enjoy a glass of whiskey and smoke a cigar.
The 14 guest rooms on the first and second floors are accessible via a wide wooden staircase. All rooms are fully, tastefully, and modernly furnished (new flooring, furniture, and beds as of 2021). On the second floor there is also a separate apartment with a spacious living room, bedroom, and bathroom (for instance, for the innkeepers), as well as two small, private guest or children’s rooms.
The public areas, corridors, and rooms have been comprehensively renovated and newly furnished. New, smooth flooring and virus-resistant (washable) wall paints have been used. In addition, the building is equipped with a digital locking system from Burgwächter, which enables a contactless check-in for guests with access to both the hotel and their rooms. Throughout the building, WLAN boosters ensure fast connectivity for guests and support the necessary computer and administrative tasks of the hoteliers. The hotel’s booking system is managed with practical, cost-effective software that can even be used on a smartphone, meaning the hotelier does not necessarily have to be on-site in an office.
Guests also have access to an outdoor seating area with 30 places in front of the hotel, and the charming courtyard can be operated as a café during the summer months. For the hotel, restaurant, and café operations, all necessary TSE-compliant modern computerized cash registers and a paging system are in place.
The hotel features two spacious garages, and guests can park free of charge directly behind the hotel on the quiet, secure parish grounds.
Generously sized cellar rooms provide space for everything not immediately needed in daily operations or for additional storage. Here you will also find the beer cooling cellar, the cask chute, and the building’s heating system—a highly efficient gas condensing boiler by Vaillant that was newly installed in 2021. Since this upgrade, the annual gas consumption has been reduced by approximately 25%.
Annual consumption figures (as of 2025):
Gas: 12,000 kWh
Electricity: 13,000 kWh
Water: 240 m³
The ancillary purchase costs are to be borne by the buyer.
