Frankenberg gained particular economic significance through its cigar-making craft and the automobile industry, notably through the Marko Framo (Frankenberg Engine Works), which operated there between 1923 and 1933.
The landmark of the town is the Protestant Lutheran church St. Aegidien, whose church tower is visible even from the highway. The lower part of the tower was built as early as 1499 and has been preserved to this day. The largest green area near the town center is the Friedenspark (Peace Park), which was created from a disused cemetery around 1890/1891.
Approximately 4 kilometers from the town center is the municipality of Dittersbach, which, together with its district Neudörfchen, forms the Frankenberg district of Dittersbach. The Lützelbach flows through the area, eventually emptying into the Zschopau south of Sachsenburg.
North of Dittersbach run Federal Highway 169 and the Federal Motorway 4, which can be reached within a few minutes by car, ensuring excellent transportation connections to the surrounding cities.
