As a three-sided farm with its own church tower and a long chestnut avenue, it exudes a unique atmosphere. The estate has a long history—which can also be read about on the internet. Originally founded as a breeding farm for thoroughbreds, it has meanwhile served as a café, discotheque, training center, and much more.
Currently, Gut Ellernwurth is used as a horse breeding farm. About 40 horses call it home. The property features spacious stalls, run-in boxes, and turnout boxes. The pasture areas are spread around the farm; some are owned and some are leased.
For riding, there are two outdoor arenas measuring 20 x 40 meters and 20 x 70 meters. The small hall (17 x 26 m) with its baroque windows is excellently suited as an indoor riding arena or for longeing.
At present, Ellernwurth comprises six residential units. The generously sized main house (approximately 380 m²) with its unique hall can be occupied by two families or generations. In addition to the standard oil heating, the main house features two fireplaces. There is also an apartment of 160 m², two apartments of 100 m² each, and one of 50 m² rounding out the picture. Further living space is available and can be expanded.
Gut Ellernwurth is so unique in its construction that it never ceases to amaze. Even the attics are an absolute sight. With their size, they can easily rival many churches.
Thus, Gut Ellernwurth can be used in many different ways. Of course, horse keeping remains an option. But one can also easily imagine the farm as an event location. Imagine getting married at the tower, celebrating in the attic, or dancing in the grand hall—it would all be possible.
Another idea might be a rehabilitation center for horses, an animal clinic, or a center for equine-assisted therapy.
Of course, it could also simply be converted into holiday apartments, a cultural center, or housing projects that bring together young and old.
Gut Ellernwurth offers such a wide range of possibilities—you simply need to bring some entrepreneurial spirit. Currently, renting out the apartments and potentially leasing the available horse boxes can generate a five-figure income.
Gut Ellernwurth is part of the Wurster North Sea Coast and is therefore located in one of Germany’s popular holiday regions. The sea is approximately 3,000 meters away; from the farm’s tower, the sea is visible. The village of Wremen is 1.5 km away, where you’ll find a pleasant selection of restaurants—from haute cuisine to a fish restaurant—a bakery, a grocery store, and several charming shops to browse and shop. In the summer, Café Dahl serves the best ice cream ever. At the beach, there are plenty of opportunities to relax and snack—say, at the beach house with good music and your feet in the sand. Wremen is close to Bremerhaven and consequently reflects a well-blended rural-urban population. For shopping, both nearby Dorum and Bremerhaven itself offer all possibilities. Wremen is a mecca for kitesurfers and is therefore becoming an increasingly attractive destination for young people. Local festivals during the summer and extensive cycling tours, which are almost a must, add to the appeal. All in all, Ellernwurth is located in an area that offers plenty to both young and old. The recreational value and clean air are truly priceless.
Gut Ellernwurth, of course, still requires renovation. When we took over the farm from a dairy operation, we made many changes and improvements, yet there is still room for further work. Our successor can build on our efforts. The beauty of this farm lies in its solid structure. Its original founder was very wealthy, and you can see that in the quality of the materials used. There are certainly not many attics where you can drive a tractor, and the wooden constructions are truly noteworthy. It would be wonderful to see this farm shine in its former glory once again. After all, Gut Ellernwurth is one of the landmarks of the region.
