In the old town of Grünberg, there are many half-timbered buildings with beautiful facades (mainly from the 15th century) as well as numerous other significant historical buildings, squares, and structures. Particularly noteworthy are:
Market Square with Town Hall and Fountain: The market square is considered the center of the old town of Grünberg. The most important building located there is the Town Hall, a Renaissance building from 1586/87. It was built by the bailiff Hermann Rüdiger from Hersfeld. Since 1593, it has been municipally owned. Previously, a market and trading room was located in the hall on the ground floor. At the entrance, an iron ell can be seen. The fountain at the market with the "Brunnengucker" is a well with a depth of 36 m, which was in use until around 1500. It was filled in and forgotten in 1820 and rediscovered in 1980.
Diebsturm: The Diebsturm is the landmark of the town of Grünberg and was built around 1300 as part of the city fortifications (height 25 m). Later, it served for a while as a prison. In 1895/96, it was converted into a water tower. Today, it houses an exhibition on the history of the city fortifications and serves as an observation tower.
