Visitors and residents alike can enjoy not only excellent shopping opportunities, but also an extensive cultural and leisure program. The Fledermaus Experience Exhibition, the Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus Museum, the Kalkberg caves, and the Marienkirche are just a few notable examples. Various festivals and activities take place throughout the year—for example, the Segeberger Kultursommer or the summertime concerts at the open-air stage.

Nationwide known Möbel-Kraft AG has its headquarters here, as do the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the Medical Association of Schleswig-Holstein. The city also offers various schools—including a community college.
