Böblingen is located at the northeastern edge of the Upper Gäu, on and along a steep hill that is an extension of the Schönbuch forest. The northern Black Forest can be reached in about half an hour from Böblingen, and the Swabian Alb in 40 minutes.

The following cities and municipalities border the town of Böblingen: the adjoining city of Sindelfingen as well as Schönaich, Holzgerlingen, and Ehningen.

Together with the neighboring city of Sindelfingen, Böblingen forms a medium-sized center within the Stuttgart region, whose major center is Stuttgart.

Böblingen is easily accessible by all means of transport: Stuttgart Airport can be reached by S-Bahn in about 20 minutes.
