Location

The recreational area Bad Erna is located about 4 km south of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district, Brandenburg, within the Lower Lusatian Heide Landscape Nature Park. The Westteich, also known as Bad Erna – Westteich, is a central element of this area and was formed from a former lignite opencast mine.

Originally, the ponds of the "Bad Erna" recreational area were created as remnants of an old lignite opencast mine, where coal was mined from 1873 to 1920. After mining ceased, the pits filled with groundwater and have been used as bathing lakes since 1927. Today, the area comprises several artificially created lakes, including the Inselteich, the Westteich, the Blauer See, the Barschteich, and the Franzosenteich.

The Westteich, with an area of about 7.6 hectares, offers diverse recreational activities such as swimming, hiking, and wildlife observation. The area is surrounded by forest and features facilities like a woodland tavern, which is idyllically located by the bathing lake, serving visitors food and drinks. A children's playground with a pirate ship and locomotive especially invites the little ones to play and romp.

The region is easily accessible via the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain and offers visitors a retreat in the midst of nature, ideal for relaxation and leisure activities.
