Wachenheim an der Weinstraße, with approximately 5,000 inhabitants and formerly known as Wachenheim im Speyergau, is located on the middle edge of the Haard (also called the eastern edge of the Palatine Forest) in the so-called Wachenheim Valley in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim. It is especially renowned for various businesses in the wine industry.
The Deutsche Weinstraße runs through Wachenheim. To relieve traffic along it, a bypass road has been constructed to the east of Wachenheim, connecting Bad Dürkheim with Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
Among the town’s landmarks is, for example, the ruin of Wachtenburg. Wachenheim is a state-recognized spa town and is popular as a holiday and wine region.
