Memmingen has approximately 44,721 inhabitants and is located near the Bavarian western border with Baden-Württemberg on the Iller, about 50 kilometers south of Ulm and 115 kilometers southwest of Munich.
The city is conveniently situated at the intersection of the motorways A7 (Ulm-Füssen-Austria) and A96 (Munich-Lindau-Switzerland – Germany’s southernmost motorway interchange) as well as along the federal roads Augsburg-Memmingen (B 300) and Memmingen-Reutlingen (B 312).
Memmingen boasts excellent infrastructure and an approximately one-kilometer-long pedestrian zone in the old town. Four municipal parking garages and an underground car park are located in the city center. Additional parking garages can be found at the hospital and at the Neue Schranne.
At Memmingen station, the rail lines Buchloe-Memmingen, Leutkirch-Memmingen, and the Neu-Ulm-Kempten line intersect. The regional transport is integrated into the Allgäu-Schwaben schedule. In long-distance traffic, Memmingen is served by the EuroCity Express line 88 (Munich-Lindau-Zurich) and individual Intercity trains on the Dortmund-Oberstdorf route. Since December 2020, the connection from Munich via Memmingen to Lindau has been electrified – electric multiple units of the SBB RABe 503 series have been operating on the Munich-Zurich route ever since. The station is fully barrier-free.
