The property was completely renovated between 1995 and 1996. During the renovation, an additional stone facade was added behind the half-timbered facade, creating excellent insulation that keeps the house pleasantly cool in summer and reduces heating costs in winter. In fact, the heating costs are very low due to a special situation. The roof was completely renewed and is in very good condition. At that time, the electrical system, sanitary installations, piping, windows, etc. were also replaced.

The house is partially basemented, and the attic has been developed sufficiently to allow easy access.

A groundwater pump supplies well water, which we use for affordable garden irrigation. Wastewater is disposed of via a septic tank that needs to be emptied approximately once a month.

From 2020 to 2021, an extensive facade renovation was carried out (approx. €100,000). The half-timbered facade was re-pointed by hand with new joints, the load-bearing wooden elements were renewed and painted, and all four sides of the house were finally treated with a hydrophobic coating.

During the same period, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the outbuilding, with approximately 11 kWp and a storage battery (10 kWh) including an emergency power function. Practically speaking, there are (almost) no electricity costs anymore.

District heating is used as the primary source of heat. Should this ever fail, the existing oil central heating automatically takes over until district heating is restored.

We use the house as a weekend retreat—it is fully equipped (kitchen, furniture, etc.) and can be reached from Berlin by regional train to the nearby Breddin station in about 1 hour and 20 minutes (Park & Ride). There is a bus connection to the actual village.

Several families in the area work in Berlin, making the train connection a viable alternative to car use.
