Kühlungsborn is situated on the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast, about 25 km from Rostock. The town was awarded the title "Seebad" (seaside resort) on February 15, 1996. With a length of 3150 meters, Kühlungsborn features the longest beach promenade in Germany. At the western end, the promenade opens onto Baltic Square. The wide sandy beach stretches for about six kilometers. Due to its seaside resort title and its numerous attractions (including the narrow-gauge railway "Molli," Germany’s longest beach promenade), Kühlungsborn has also become an important destination for tourism.
