To the northwest, about 15 meters above the northern hillside, is the village of Pochra, and to the east of Merzdorf are the Riesa district Gröba and the Riesa harbor on the Elbe. Merzdorf is crossed by state road 28, which connects the village via Canitz with Oschatz.
