To the west of the outskirts, the Zschopau flows by, and the Mühlbach runs through the eponymous district as well as the town center.
Frankenberg gained particular economic significance through the cigar-making craft and the automobile industry, notably with the Marko Framo (Frankenberger Motorenwerke) which produced there between 1923 and 1933.
The landmark of the town is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Aegidien, whose church tower is visible from the motorway. The lower part of the tower was constructed in 1499 and has been preserved to this day. The largest green space near the town center is Friedenspark, which was created around 1890/1891 from a decommissioned cemetery.
Approximately 4 kilometers from the town center is the municipality of Dittersbach, which, together with its district Neudörfchen, forms the Frankenberg district of Dittersbach. The Lützelbach flows through this area, ultimately merging into the Zschopau south of Sachsenburg.
North of Dittersbach run Federal Highway 169 and the Federal Motorway 4, both of which can be reached in just a few minutes by car, providing excellent transport connections to the surrounding cities.
