What is a “senior co-housing community”?
A care co-housing community is a support service for people in need of care, especially in old age or very advanced age. It has so far become particularly successful in Germany, as well as in other German-speaking countries, especially for people with dementia. It is a family-like form of living.
This care model is essentially also suitable for those in need of care who do not suffer from mental illness. However, it requires the willingness and ability to participate in managing the home and its organization, either personally or via relatives. Furthermore, mixing care recipients with and without dementia in such a living arrangement is conceivable and may even be beneficial. In general, it is a “we all participate” co-housing community—a living arrangement in which people share an apartment or house and support each other in daily life.
