The Hammerschmiede in the Allgäu

The approximately 400-year-old Hammerschmiede is located in the Allgäu in a valley deep in the forest, on a clearing right by the Tobelbach stream. The building is situated in a quiet location, surrounded by nature, without any significant noise pollution.

The last blacksmith completed his work in 1907. Afterwards, the building remained unused for a long time until it was comprehensively renovated starting in 2015. The goal of the renovation was to preserve the historical character while at the same time providing modern residential comfort.

The façade was completely renewed. A wooden frame system reinforces the exterior walls and supports two layers of wood fiber insulation boards. A climate membrane ensures wind resistance. The cladding is made of rough-sawn, locally sourced wood. For the house front, an over 80-year-old shingle master handcrafted tens of thousands of wooden shingles.

The building is not under monument protection. Some original windows on the first floor were preserved. Double-glazed windows, the roof, and the electrical system come from an earlier renovation. The house is heated by an oil central heating system as well as additional wood stoves. The oil burner was recently renewed. Underfloor heating is installed on the ground floor and above the garage.

The adjacent Tobelbach remains stable in its riverbed and does not pose any flood risk. Due to its location, it contributes to the natural cooling of the house, especially during the summer months.

The Hammerschmiede is situated in a tranquil, nature-rich environment, yet in close proximity to the village, the town of Lindenberg, and about 40 minutes from Lake Constance. It offers opportunities for retreat and a very peaceful environment.

In winter, the robust construction of the wooden house ensures good insulation. In addition to the central heating, wood stoves contribute to a cozy warmth. The access road is a municipal road that is regularly cleared. In the immediate vicinity, there are cross-country skiing trails and winter hiking paths, which are connected to the regional winter sports network of the Allgäu.
